“Barmaid” 30 x 40 Oil 2005 by Tom Kelly

Using cubistic techniques along with self conscious observations to produce a painting where the viewer engages the forms to produce a hopefully cohesive statement of a bartender at a local bar. On a side note while I was sketching the barmaid and liquor bottles, the manager came over and questioned what I was doing because the barmaid was suspicious and reported that I was drawing her. He let me stay.

This painting was purchased by a local ophthalmologist, Dr. Mark Renshaw. A show of the Dr.’s collection was held at the F.W. Art Museum. The painting ended up next to a Motherwell painting so I took a picture. I figured it might be the only time I get to be hung with a master.
