“Bye, Mom” 24 x 30 Oil 2003 by Tom Kelly
There was an image in my mind that I had to get out. This is the scene in the hospital room when my mother died with her family all around. The family gathered around as my mother struggled for air. My father was not there and the nurse kept saying that it would not be long and that he should be there with her. We called and my brother who was trying to get him to the hospital said that he was taking his time getting dressed in a coat and tie. He kept saying it will be OK. She lingered on until he finally arrived. Sitting next to her he grabbed her hand and told her it was time to go and she died.
