“Go Go Girls” 30 x 40 Oil 1990’s by Tom Kelly

This painting was a challenge for me because it combined different styles to make the painting work. The women are soft and real while the men are wild and primitive. The painting is located at a "strip joint" with female dancers. After doing a number of drawings of dancers and the men that gawked at them, the painting was conceived using influences of African art, expressionism and cubism. The images of dance and the primal instincts they arouse motivated me to paint this subject matter. The painting won an award at Art Link Regional Show
